Emma Baltzersen

Emma Baltzersen

Hello! I am Emma Baltzersen and am a senior here at Riverview High School. I moved to Sarasota 6 years ago and have always had an interest in the ocean and understanding what makes up a large portion of the globe. I enjoy watching movies with friends and baking when I am not on the softball field. I joined Stars to Starfish this year because I love working with younger kids and want to make sure that I want to pursue elementary education as a future career path. My plan for the future is to double major in elementary education and journalism or English, with hopes of being able to continue my softball career as well. I am so excited for this year to kick off and participate in the new adventure that is Stars to Starfish.

Allysen Byerley

Allysen Byerley

Hi! My name is Allysen Byerley. I’m a senior at Riverview high school. I moved to Sarasota 8 years ago; I instantly fell in love with the diverse marine life and ecosystem. I joined stars to starfish is because I love interacting with younger kids and watching their interest in our oceans/marine life grow. Inside of Riverview I have been a part of varsity weightlifting and track/field for all 4 years. My favorite thing about being in these sports is seeing your individual and teammates growth/progress right in front of you. That same growth is also what I want to see for our oceans, marine life along with the stars to starfish program. I can’t wait to see what this year has to hold and all we accomplish this year.

Sophie Cottrez

Sophie Cottrez

Hello! My name is Sophie Cottrez and I am a senior here at Riverview. I grew up here in Sarasota and love going to the beach and on the boat. When I first came to Riverview, sophomore year, I took Honors Marine Science with Mr. Wasserman. I loved that class and learned so much about our local marine environment. Since then, I have taken IB Marine Science and am now doing Stars to Starfish. Since choosing to do the Marine pathway in IBCP, I have been looking forward to taking part in this program. I am excited to have the opportunity to teach younger kids about marine organisms and gain new skills in the Aqua Dome. In the future, I plan to attend the University of Kentucky on a pre-veterinary track to continue working with animals.

Evan Elliott

Evan Elliott

Hello! My name is Evan Elliott, I am currently a senior at Riverview High school and am planning on studying marine biology in college and my future career. I like to participate in events while I’m volunteering as a Junior Board member for Sarasota Baywatch. I plan on being an educator later in my life with the intention to teach kids about our oceans and how to conserve the life and diversity in it. I would like to leave the ocean in a better condition than when it was when I found it.

Hey! My name is Sydney Fieber. I am a senior at Riverview High school. Being that I have lived in Sarasota my whole life, the ocean is like a second home to me. Growing up I have always wanted to know more about the ocean. I love learning about marine life and how everything is connected. When I was in elementary school I remember my first field trip to the aqua dome, I remember thinking that it was the coolest thing ever. Since that day I have been determined to participate in that aspect of Riverview High school. As soon as I could I enrolled in marine bio my freshman year. Now as a senior Stars to Starfish just seemed like common sense to me because I knew I would love it. I enjoy going to the beach to watch the sunset and swim in the water. I also enjoy going to the gym and traveling when I can.

Don’t ask me how many sunset photos are on my phone… I was a surf/paddle board camp counselor for 3 years, which made me fall in love with the ocean even more. I started taking Marine Biology with Mr. Wasserman my sophomore year and his class helped me further my passion and knowledge about marine biology. I loved it so much I decided to join the IB Career program, making my path Marine Science, as well as taking IB marine science my junior year. I am super excited to be a part of this program and broaden my knowledge on all things marine biology. I am hoping to major in Marine Sciences or Environmental Sciences at the University of South Florida St. Pete or Florida Atlantic University.
